About this Space

Garnet Station is a much loved local institution. World famous in Westmere for their eclectic, colourful and heritage pizzeria, garden and theatre space, this is a true one of a kind. Friendship, hospitality, pride and community is etched into the grain of our beautiful space, that we love to share with our neighbourhood, artists, creatives and other wonderful humans.

The tiny theatre seats 35 and is the most perfect intimate space for theatre, gigs, poetry, performance art and storytelling. It can host 50 standing. We love to host cabaret, burlesque, new plays, old plays, friends and soon to be friends. This magical space is also great for meet ups, presentations, film screenings, rehearsals, lectures, meetings, workshops - the only limit is your imagination (and it’s tiny-ness).

Our beautiful theatre is also a perfect tiny wedding venue. If you’re looking for an intimate space to celebrate your perfect day - then this hidden gem could work for you. Host your ceremony in the chapel like theatre and then enjoy some drinks in the secret garden while we transform the space for dinner and later dancing and merriment. 

The hire of the space comes with stage, wifi, sound, lights, a screen, projector, trestle tables, chairs and use of our secret garden. If you're putting on a performance, then we're on hand to help with the kit.

We have 3 options for pricing depending on your event.

  1. For hourly community hire of the tiny theatre space- e.g. for meetings, workshops, rehearsals - it’s $25 an hour.

  2. For parties, weddings and private dining - there’s no venue hire fee because we will supply the drinks and food. Book the date and time you need through this website, but use the discount code WEREHAVINGAPARTY to reduce the hourly rate to $0. The minimum spend is $250.

  3. If you would like to host your performance here, then the fee is 25% of ticket sales. To book this please use TINYTHEATRETICKETS discount code. This will reduce the fee to $10 an hour. After the event we will calculate the final cost based on the ticket sales.

    Scenario A: You book for 2 hours and this costs $10 an hour. Your ticket sales are $200. We will charge you $30 after the event to cover the $50 for a 25% commission on your ticket sales.

    Scenario B: You book for 2 hours and this costs $10 an hour. Your ticket sales are $60. We will refund you $5 after the event as you only owe $15 for a 25% commission on your ticket sales.

Ticketing: If you would like to ticket your event through our website you are very welcome to. Please answer YES to this question at checkout and message us a blurb and photo so we can add you to our site. We will send you the URL to share to sell tickets. All events go out to our 1000 + database through our monthly emails. In this scenario where we are taking the cash for your tickets, your 75% payment of your ticket sales will be paid taking into account the $10 an hour deposit you've already paid to us. You are welcome also to use your own ticketing system, but we need you to send us the total tickets reconciliation by email within 48 hours of the event ending, so that we can correctly charge you the 25% as above.

FRINGE & PRIDE FESTIVAL 2021

We welcome bookings for Fringe & Pride festival. Please note the following:

The venue is free to hire with risk/profit share: 25% / 75% split to artist. To book please make sure:

You book a 630 to 730pm slot or a 8-9pm slot - this is so we can accomodate two shows per night.

You use the discount code FESTIVAL2021 which will reduce the fees to $0 (free).

  • 1x DI with two parallel Jack inputs, 5x 5m XLR cables,

  • 2x Mic stands with mic clips

  • 2x Audix Pro Microphones

  • 2x Quest QSA 200i active speakers, 200w peak powered by a whopping CROWN Cts 1200 Amplifier.

  • 1x Behringer X1222 Console 2x inputs SR that run back to the console Lighting,

We have: 1x Console, runs DMX 512 with the ability to operate up to 8 channels.

  • 3x QTX LED Par lights DMX & Static controllable

  • 2x Fresnel FOH Lights, 6x Floodlights with turtles (Floor adaptors)

  • 2x Par52 Par Cans

  • 1x Theatrelight Comet 6 Channel Smart Dimmer.

Catering and Alcohol

If you’re hosting a party or private dinner party in the space, we will cater this event for you. We will work with you to provide meal options that work for you - either a lavish & delicious bespoke menu can be created or you can keep it easy and have us fire up the pizza oven and your guests can order from our pizza menu. In the on site kitchen we use free range eggs, organic meat and local produce. We recycle, reuse, upcycle, compost, worm farm and love to have fun! We also have options for kids parties, platters and much more. We also have a licensed bar serving a carefully curated selection of NZ wine and craft beer. We also make incredible cocktails. You can opt to pay upfront for a bar tab or have a cash bar for your guests. 

Location

We’re on beautiful & historic Garnet road in the sunny beach village Westmere. We love our neighbourhood and are a short walk from Western Springs Park, the village and beautiful Meola reef reserve, with views across to Te Atatu.

Parking and Public Transport Information

We’re opposite the bus stop for the 105 which get’s you to Britomart in about 25 mins and is a really regular service. Parking is free and residential.
