If you are looking for somewhere to hold a community meeting then you are welcome to make a booking request for the use of one of our spaces. To ensure fair access, rooms aren’t for commercial use or ongoing private office space.

The Hinerākau Room is a compact, quiet meeting space located inside Havelock North Library—perfect for small group discussions, one-on-one meetings, or focused project work.

  • Seats 6–8 people comfortably around a central table

About the Space

This room includes:

  • 1 rectangular table and 6 chairs (more available on request)

  • Fixed TV screen with HDMI and audio visual capability for online meetings

  • A fixed whiteboard

  • A blank projectable wall

It’s ideal for team planning, tutoring, or quiet community use in a calm and central setting.

This space is available free of charge for non-commercial use. This is defined by the primary purpose of the booking, not necessarily the group or organisation using the space.

Hastings District Libraries proudly offer free meeting rooms to support not-for-profit and community-focused groups. These spaces are intended to foster collaboration, learning, and connection within our community. To ensure equitable access, we kindly ask that rooms are not used for personal business activities, commercial ventures, or ongoing private office use. Our goal is to prioritise genuine community initiatives and ensure these shared spaces remain available for those working to benefit the wider public.

Space rules

  • Leave the space as you found it. Please return furniture to its original layout and remove any items or materials you brought in.

  • Allow time for setup and pack-down within your booked time slot.

  • This is a shared public space. If you've booked a partial area, please be respectful of other library users nearby.

  • Supervise children at all times.

  • You are responsible for your group’s behaviour while using the space.

  • Damage or mess may incur a cleaning or repair fee.

  • Please notify us of cancellations as early as possible so the space can be made available to others.

  • Free parking on the surrounding streets.

  • Bus stops are located at the Havelock North Clock Tower and along Te Mata Road.
