About this space

Located in the heart of Hastings, the Hastings War Memorial Library is a vibrant hub for connection, learning, and creativity. Our space is designed to be welcoming and flexible, supporting a wide variety of uses for our diverse community.

The library includes a range of bookable spaces that cater to groups of different sizes and purposes. These spaces are used for everything from community gatherings and hobby groups to creative workshops, study spaces and educational sessions. They’re available free of charge, for non-commercial use, and are popular with local groups who meet regularly for Mahjong, Scrabble, painting, knitting, book chats, and more.

As a public library, we also host a rich and evolving programme of events and activities throughout the year. These include storytimes, author talks, language and literacy programmes, cultural celebrations, craft sessions, tech help drop-ins, and school holiday activities for all ages. Our spaces are designed to adapt to a range of needs—whether it’s quiet study, lively community conversation, or hands-on creativity.

The Hastings War Memorial Library is a place for you to access a great range of books and information as well as a shared space for people to come together, explore ideas, and feel at home in their community.

Hastings War Memorial Library has been classified as an earthquake-prone building following a Detailed Seismic Assessment (DSA). While the building remains safe for public use during smaller seismic events, plans are in place to address this classification. Click here for more information.
