She makes sure that the Theatre runs smoothly day to day and will be the one to answer any of your calls and queries.

About this space

The Covert is a vibrant space, home to fun and creativity and is perfect for off-site meetings, business strategy sessions, product launches, conferences, presentations - you name it! Situated 1 minute from Ponsonby Road, it's right in the heart of the cities cafe, bar and nightlife hub. If you're looking for a space to get the team out of the office, and into a more creative and dynamic space then the Covert is perfect. The theatre is in the heart of Ponsonby. Just 2 minutes walk from Ponsonby Central's famous food court and so many top 50 cafes and restaurants, this is a foodie paradise. It's also retail heaven with some of NZ's best love brands and indie shops close by.

The theatre space is a black box where you can create the set-up that you want for your event. The theatre has retractable theatre seating, so you can choose to have it set up for presentation or performance with the seats out. Or you can create a larger space and choose cabaret style or a completely flexible set-up. There are rigged lighting and a full sound system, mics and technician booth. This is a high quality, private and professional space where you can create your event experience.

The Basic Hire Includes:

  • The theatre space, foyer & bar spaces

  • Chairs and tables or theatre seats

  • Access to the kitchenette & green room

  • Free Wifi

  • On-site staff to assist with access & questions

Additional Hires:

  • Technician - There is a full lighting rig, full theatre production sound system and mics. You're welcome to use this to create your event experience, however, it must be operated by one of our in house technicians. This kit cannot be operated by external/outside people or technicians.

  • Bar Staff - Bar/Alcohol can only be served if you hire the bar staff

  • Cleaning Fee - We will hire professional cleaners to clean up the event function space once your booked session has ended

Example setups:

  • Team away days and strategy sessions - set the theatre up cabaret-style and then use the foyer for breakout sessions. Have team drinks at the bar when your work is done. For the entertainment, why not commission our in house, award-winning Improv bandits to play a memorable show just for you.

  • Product launches or sample sales - benefit from high footfall of proximity to Ponsonby Road, use the foyer to control access and create your brand experience in our black box space. Filming - we've got the lights and technicians, you just need to bring the camera crew. This space benefits from excellent soundproofing.

  • Private parties and celebrations - A great space to celebrate, you can set up informal seating, a dance floor. Let our bar staff take care of your friends and whanau, and bring in your favourite caterers.

Kitchenette & Catering: The basic hire of the space comes with access to the small kitchenette with a microwave, sink and a few knives and platters. You can leave rubbish in our bins. For a cheap and cheerful option, we can organise pizza for your attendees. You are welcome to bring your own caterers or head to one of Auckland's many top 50 restaurants and bars just minutes away on Ponsonby road.
We have an in house barista who can serve your group coffees and teas throughout the day, and these will be charged to your bill at the end of the day.

Bar Services: The Covert has a fully stocked bar that can be available for your event. If you would like to use the bar, please purchase the bar staff charge at checkout (pricing below). We recommend purchasing a bar staff member for each hour you want the bar open and per 40 guests. For example, if you want the bar open for 2 hours and you have 60 attendees, you would add 4 bar staff charges at checkout.
As a licenced venue, we cannot allow BYO.

Decorations: You're welcome to come and set up your event a few hours before. If you're booking for multiple days, you can leave stuff in the theatre, as long as it's stored so that our theatre can be used in the evenings for our classes. You can use event hire suppliers, and access to the theatre is by the front door, where you can drive up and do quick pick-ups and drop-offs. You must remove all your decorations and kit by the end of your hire, as it's a public theatre in the evening! Sorry, the space isn't suitable for DJs or bands.

Accessibility: The venue is fully wheelchair accessible, and has disabled toilets. The staff will be onsite during your event and will coordinate access and answer questions.

Fees/Charges/Discounts: We offer a discounted rate for community or non for profit groups who wish to hire the Covert. This is $92 per hour. If you would like to enquire about this rate, please message us and we can advise the discount code for checkout

Rules

· We take a $1000 bond for each booking which is taken 3 days before your booking and returned 3 days after.

· No Pets

· No Smoking

· No Open Fires

· Be respectful of the space and amenities being provided (e.g. furniture, kitchen utensils, etc.)

· Book enough time to clean up space (if not paying booking fee*)

· Leave room exactly as you found it upon arrival

· If using decorations, please ensure you do not use any hanging material that can cause damage to the walls (e.g. nails)

· Inform us of any damages/breakages

Additional details

Host's Cancellation Policy
100% refund on cancellations up until 14 days before your booking. After that, there are no refunds on cancellation.
Parking and Public Transport Information

There is on street paid parking all around the theatre. There is also parkable slots and large car parks just a few minutes walk away. There are plenty of public transport options, with many buses including the Inner Link circulating Ponsonby Road.
