About this space
Somervell Presbyterian Church is a welcoming church with a Chapel that is ideal for counselling sessions, small group music rehearsals as well as small support group meetings and gatherings. The carpeted space is quiet, peaceful and inviting, with access to various ammenities. Situated minutes from Remuera and with easy access from the motorway using the Greenlane exit, and with free parking, hosting your event here could not be more convenient. We aim to meet the needs of all who would like to share and enjoy our community buildings, church and other resources. The Church is a modern building with lots of windows letting in natural light. The Chapel is part of the Somervell Presbyterian Church complex, so although the space is private to your booking, there may be other users in the building, and of course there may be activity in our offices during working days.
There is a piano in the Chapel space, making it ideal for a small recital or music rehearsal or lessons.
There is a portable TV/video screen, with HDMI cables available for hire. You must bring your own adapters if none of these work for the ports on your machine, or you can bring a memory stick. For simpler options, a whiteboard is available at no cost.
The Chapel has slots available for regular hire! We have reduced rates for regular bookings - contact us through this page to discuss what you need. Regular bookings are invoiced monthly.
The Chapel has pews to seat up to 30 people. There are power points in the room (bring your own extension cords).
Guests may take a hot or cold drink into the Chapel, but if you wish to serve more substantial meals, please ensure you book an additional room space. We recommend the foyer for light refreshments, or the Hall for a more substantial sit-down or buffet meal. These locations can be booked separately. You are able to book the kitchen as an add-on, either with lite use (tea/coffee and finger food etc.) or full use (cooking meals etc.) for self-catering your event or with external caterers. Included in the kitchen are sinks, zips (for instant hot water), a fridge, oven and cooktop, microwave and steriliser. There are cups available and limited crockery, and we recommend you bring your own cutlery, glassware and cooking and serving equipment. You are welcome to serve alcohol at your event. If you intend to sell alcohol at your event, please make sure you have purchased a license from Auckland Council. To apply online head to: https://www.aucklandcouncil.govt.nz/licences-regulations/business-licences/alcohol-licences-fines/Pages/default.aspx Please note, special licenses can take 25 days to process.
The chapel is fully accessible and there are accessible toilets located off the adjoining foyer. There are designated parks for those with limited mobility in front of the church. There are also baby changing table in the toilets off the foyer, although we do ask that guests take used nappies away with them to prevent lingering odours.
Somervell Presbyterian Church is within walking distance of nearby shops and eateries. There are a number of options for your breaks or after event drinks.
