Somervell Presbyterian Church - Auditorium (Church)

Somervell Presbyterian Church is a progressive, affirming and welcoming church that is the perfect location to host a wedding, concert or performance. It’s also suitable for regular or one-off community events, art exhibitions, and many other functions. Situated minutes from Remuera and with easy access from the motorway using the Greenlane exit, and with free parking, hosting your event here could not be more convenient. We aim to meet the needs of all who would like to share and enjoy our community buildings, church and other resources. The Church is a modern building with lots of windows letting in natural light.

The church space has large windows letting in natural light to a space which is large and airy, with great acoustics. There is a small balcony which overlooks the church space, and can seat up to 15 people. We have a piano, an electric organ and a professional sound desk and projectors. We can video events and provide live-streaming of your event. The church has an under floor heating and ventilation system.

Included in the space hire is:

• seating for up to 250 people, with an additional 15 upstairs on the balcony (you may need to allow additional time to set up and pack up if you wish to use all of the seating available).

When you hire the Church space, entry is through the carpeted foyer, which provides a pleasant area for mingling before or after your event.

The church has fixed ceiling projectors and a sound/speaker system which you can add to your booking at checkout. The projector comes with HDMI and VGA cables. You must bring your own adapters if none of these work for the ports on your machine, or you can bring a memory stick. Our staff will run the sound desk/projector for your event. Please check the sound system/projector assistance box when booking. There is a charge for this.

We can supply an organist for your event - please select the organist box when booking (there is a cost for this). If you wish to use the organ and provide your own organist, you will need to confirm this with our office staff.

Guests may take a hot or cold drink into the church space, but if you wish to serve more substantial meals, please ensure you book an additional room space. We recommend the foyer for light refreshments, or the Hall for a more substantial sit-down or buffet meal. These locations can be booked separately. You are able to book the kitchen as an add-on, either with lite use (tea/coffee and finger food etc.) or full use (cooking meals etc.) for self-catering your event or with external caterers. Included in the kitchen are sinks, zips (for instant hot water), a fridge, oven and cooktop, microwave and steriliser. There are cups available and limited crockery, and we recommend you bring your own cutlery, glassware and cooking and serving equipment. You are welcome to serve alcohol at your event. If you intend to sell alcohol at your event, please make sure you have purchased a license from Auckland Council. You are welcome to decorate the church for your event. However, you must not use pins or tape or anything that would damage the walls or furnishings. Please note that the church must be left as you found it, so all decorations must be removed. All decorations and anything you have brought in for your event must be removed by the end of your booking as we can't accommodate storage or set up/pack down before or after your booking time has ended. Please book the time you need in the church space to set up, pack down and clean as the church may be used directly before or after you.
