Freedom Camping facilities - Castlecliff Whanganui
Hosted by Progress Castlecliff
SpacetoCo Host since June 2024Progress Castlecliff is a broad, membership based incorporated society and a registered charity with thirty years of working for better for Castlecliff. Progress Castlecliff manages the Duncan Pavilion for Whanganui Council to ensure it remains as an iconic public building in Te Kauhau-o-Kupe / Castlecliff.
About this space
24/7 toilet facilities and Wi-Fi access for $8/day. Run by non-profit community group Progress Castlecliff.
It is not necessary to book these facilities if your vehicle is certified self contained (www.nzscv.co.nz ) AND you prefer to use your own facilities.
This access is a trial and will be continued providing the costs of providing the facilities are met by booking fees.
Over time we hope to improve facilities with basic but helpful additions like
hot showers
a utility room with a "zip" (limitless boiling water), dishwash sink with hot water, freezer to freeze your ice packs and plugs for device charging.
a "dump station" in the parking area
possibly laundry facilities
possibly powered parking sites
The facilities will however remain basic - excellent full service camping (kitchen, pool, communual areas etc) and affordable cabin accommodation is available nearby at the Seaside Holiday Park which we encourage you to use.

Rules
Each vehicle wanting to use these facilities must make their own reservation.
Do not share the access code (or hold the door open for others). It may seem helpful to share the code but the out-of-hours access costs money that needs to be covered by user fees.
Also it's your details and credit card on the booking - if you couldn't share your credit card details with total strangers why would you share the facilities access code that's secured by your credit card!!
We do use CCTV to record people entering and leaving. This is for your safety and may also be shared with Council, Alarm Watch, and the NZ Police (incl Community Patrol) in the event of issues or damage.
Additional details
All Freedom Camping in Te Kaihau-o-Kupe / Castlecliff is ONLY allowed in the top two tiers next to the Duncan Pavilion. Overnight camping in the rest of the reserve including other carparks in Rangiora Street and Morgan St (North Mole) is strictly prohibited.
