About this space

1st Heatherdale Scout Group (part of Scouts Australia) is a thriving local community group focussed on supporting our children to develop into self-reliant and responsible members of the community. Scouting emphasises nature, outdoor adventure, citizenship, leadership, teamwork and, of course, having fun! We have a fabulous, large hall that we are proud to hire out. It is a way for us to raise funds for the benefit of our young people.

1st Heatherdale Scout Group acknowledges the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of the Land on which we base our Scouting, and pays respect to the Elders both past and present of the Kulin Nation.

The hall

Nestled in a bushland setting, our hall boasts an open fire place, ducted heating plus kitchen and toilet facilities. Originally a church hall, our building was moved to its present position beside Somers Trail parklands through the dedicated efforts of the local community. This is a simple and inviting space - your classic Scout Hall! It is full of Scouting memorabilia and this may restrict our ability to hire out the hall for some activities. Our hall is suitable for events with up to approximately 120 people - we welcome family celebrations, sporting club events, special interest groups, small business functions, school events and charity fund-raising events.

The facilities

Hire of this hall includes:

  • the hall (approximately 16.5m x 7.9m)

  • access to our kitchen and toilets and the normal facilities within these spaces. You're welcome to use the kitchen for self catering your event or with external caterers.

  • Up to 12 large and 5 small blow-mould tables may be available for use when you hire the hall. However, they are sometimes in use by our Scout Group for some of our fun activities. Please indicate in your booking, when prompted, how many you might be interested in using for your event - and we'll check their availability.

  • About 50 chairs.

  • 7 double power points within the hall (BYO extension leads).

  • A large projector screen (BYO projector).

  • Ducted heating.

  • A huge fan, but no air-conditioning.

The kitchen

Included in the kitchen there are

  • 2 kettles and 2 urns for hot water to make tea/coffee

  • a microwave, toasters and sandwich presses

  • electric stove/oven

  • fridge/freezer

  • two sinks

  • lots of bench space

  • the eclectic collection of crockery, cups/mugs, cutlery and utensils that you would expect to find in a community space. As a guide - you might find around 90 mugs, 10 glasses, 20 dinner plates, 15 bread & butter plates, 5 dessert bowls, 50+ saucers, 0 teacups (go figure!) and 50 each of knives, spoons & forks. There are around 50 plastic kids cups, bowls and plates, too. As for utensils, its quite the adventure - expect marshmallow toasting forks, BBQ tongs, egg lifters and serving spoons and then keep an open mind about the rest!

You are welcome to use an external event hire company if you want to bring your own furniture (tables & chairs), table cloths, drapes, crockery, cutlery etc.

Access

We have two double-door entrances and a forecourt to facilitate loading/unloading of your gear. The hall is wheelchair accessible. Note that, in keeping with our natural setting, the driveway is gravel and provides a somewhat uneven surface for walking.

Fees and charges

  • There is a weekend surcharge that is automatically added to your booking.

  • A bond is held for all bookings.

  • We welcome ongoing bookings and have discounted rates for regular hirers. Message us through this page to discuss what you need. Regular bookings are invoiced monthly.

Set-up & Pack-up

All decorations, rubbish and anything you have brought in for your event must be removed by the end of your booking. You should wash the items you used then store away in their cupboards. Basic cleaning equipment is provided.
