About this space
Karekare Surf Life Saving Club is a brand new function venue situated on one of the most beautiful beaches in the world. Overlooked by the famous Watchman ridge and with views out the the wild west coast black sands, this is a truly one-of-a-kind venue.
The venue is open only for Surf Life Saving Club use between Labour Day and Waitangi Day, and weekends until Easter. However, we're happy to take requests for special occasions and discuss the logistics with you. Please message us if you are interested in using the facility during this period.
This page describes our corporate or private event venue offering. The main function space has a large flexible area that could work for a theatre style presentation set up or for formal table seating. There is a smaller meeting/boardroom space that connects to the main space and includes a bar area. The space has an open plan, modern kitchen with beautiful portable marble topped benches that work for informal serving areas, seating or workshops. There is a small front deck with exceptional views and direct access the beach. Aside from the stunning location, the best thing about this venue is that you can stay here as well! There are 20 comfortable bunks across 5 bedrooms that are perfect if you need an overnight retreat or getaway for your team.
This space is ideally suited for: Corporate away days, professional classes e.g. photography workshops or art schools, team retreats, wellness retreats, training and professional development, film screenings, intimate concerts or gigs, private parties and celebrations. Eating & Drinking
The venue has an open plan modern kitchen that is included with all bookings. The kitchen includes a dishwasher, microwave, toasters, jug, large fridge with freezer space, plenty of counter & prep space. There is crockery, cutlery and glassware for 150 people. The drinking water is filtered. There is also serving ware e.g. platters and jugs. You are welcome to self cater in the space, or we can connect you with a local catering supplier who knows the space. There are pre-paid catering options that you can add at checkout. A tea & coffee station can be set up for your event with Nespresso machine & pods, selection of teas, milk etc. All corporate or private event bookings have a mandatory cleaning fee applied to their booking for a full post event clean. Cleaning equipment is included for clean up during the day. Please advise us if you wish to bring a BBQ or deep fat fryer.
You may serve but not sell alcohol. Please advise at checkout if you intend to serve alcohol at your event. You must drink responsibly, clear and take home all bottles/cans from the premises and have a nominated driver/s who commits to remaining sober.
The venue has 26 bunks in 5 bedrooms with very comfy mattresses. There are 7 bathrooms with showers. This is a great option if you want to make the most of the stunning beach location or want to do a longer retreat with your team. You must bring your own towels, sheets, bedding and pillows. We have no laundry service or washing machine at the facility.

Audio Visual & Tech
The venue can provide a large portable screen and projector for presentations. There is an inbuilt large screen television in the meeting area. HDMI cables are available, please BYO adaptor if your device is not compatible with HDMI. A bluetooth speaker is available. There are multiple powerpoints and a hot desk bench set up in the meeting space. No technical support is available with your booking. There is 3 phase power and the space is suitable for filming. There is reasonable 3G mobile reception.
The space would be suitable for a small band who would need to bring their own kit, speakers, amps etc. You are able to use an external event hire company for additional furniture or set up. Decorations are allowed as long as they do not damage the wall space and are removed at the end of your booking. Access is via a dirt track and there is one flight of stairs to access to the venue space. Please bear this in mind if you need to pack in large kit. Please book enough time to set up and pack down your event. For consecutive multi day bookings you are welcome to store any kit at the facility, although this is at your own risk.
Accessibility & access
We regret that this venue is not suitable for wheelchair users. There is no disabled toilet and access to the venue is up a flight of stairs. To access the venue on your booking day, you will be met by a custodian of the club who will let you in and give a short health & safety briefing.
Location & club environment
The venue is located in Karekare. The nearest amenities are in Glen Eden or Titirangi, approximately 30 minute drive away. In the area are stunning walks around Karekare beach and bush, Piha beach and tracks and the wider Waitakere ranges. This venue is a working surf club in a remote area! Therefore a bit of sand and wild weather is to be expected.

COVID-19 ADDITIONAL Rules
When Auckland is operating at the Alert Red of the COVID-19 Protection Framework you must:
Be double vaccinated (if aged 12 and over) and show proof of your vaccination status when requested.
Scan our QR code or sign our register.
Wear a facemask (unless exempt).
Keep 1 metre distance from others unless in the same domestic bubble.
Keep to the maximum numbers allowed for each group booking.
You need to book for the time it takes to run your event, including set up and pack down. Please allow for this in your booking.
Please bring your own stationery including whiteboard markers.

No naked flames or fireworks
Please assign a safety coordinator and firewarden as part of your booking. This person must keep a mobile phone switched on so we can contact you in an emergency.
In the event of a civil defence emergency, we reserve the right to cancel your booking last minute with a full refund.
There is free parking at the Auckland Council car park. This is 200m walk away down a dirt track. We can arrange private parking at additional cost. Please contact us for details.
