About this space
A BOND of $150 is required to secure hire of the Community Bus, along with an estimate of the KM's you will travel. Any extra KM's will be calculated and invoiced to you on return of the Bus:
KM's are calculated at:
- $2 per km for general public and businesses
or
- $1 per km for approved Community groups and Health organisationsbilling for the KM's will be included in your initial hire fee. If you go over the KM's estimated, the additional KM's will be charged separately; or if the KM charge is less than you estimated you will be refunded the difference.
If cleaning of the bus is required (after use) this will be added to your booking charges.
Community Bus
Port Pirie Council owns a Community Bus which has regular bookings by Health Services, Community Clubs and other Community Organisations to support social activities and programs which benefit older and transport disadvantaged people residing in the Port Pirie Regional Council Community.
The Bus is also available for hire by schools, community groups, individuals, businesses and organisations (to use responsibly) on various days and times including Weekends and Evenings when not utilised for regular programmed bookings.
The bus has an electronic step, sliding door, seatbelts, walking frame (max 2) tie rails, heating and air-conditioning.
Requirements:
The nominated driver is required to hold a FULL class C car license to drive the bus.
The nominated driver is responsible for doing a roadworthy inspection before departure, and on completion of the trip using QR code check-in's - reporting on KM's travelled, refueling, cleanliness or any damage to the bus.
The nominated driver must report any incidents or accidents to the Crystal Brook Library Staff as soon as practical.
Bus Keys are to be collected from the Crystal Brook Office OR Port Pirie Office during Business Hours - Monday-Friday. (Please ensure the keys are returned to the location of collection).
Crystal Brook - 10.00am - 1.00pm and 2.00pm - 5.00pm
Port Pirie - 9.00am - 5.00pm
Bus is located on the grounds of the Crystal Brook Hospital, Claridge St, Crystal Brook.
Council will not be responsible for any losses resulting from late cancellation of the hire due to circumstances beyond its control, i.e. mechanical breakdown - Please note that there are no alternative vehicles for use if this occurs.

Rules
Conditions of Use:
The nominated driver must be 21yrs or older and is required to hold a FULL Class C car license to drive the bus.
The responsibility of the community bus is transferred to the nominated driver when the hire agreement form is completed, and the keys are collected.
Please note, for safety reasons the bus has a maximum occupancy of 12 including the driver and can only cater for the safe storage of up to 2 walking frames.
The nominated driver must not have consumed alcohol or drugs. It is an offence for the driver of the community bus to have any alcohol or drugs in their system whilst driving the bus. The driver’s blood alcohol / drug reading must be zero (0) / - negative at all times.
The nominated driver must be medically fit to perform the duties necessary to drive/control the Community Bus.
The nominated driver must familiarise themselves with the operations of the Community Bus prior to taking the Bus out with passengers on board.
All Passengers must wear seatbelts and remain seated whilst travelling on the bus at all times and comply with any reasonable request of the driver.
The nominated driver is responsible for the behaviour of passengers, any behaviour that is disorderly or unlawful is not permitted.
The hirer will be responsible for costs associated with malicious and wilful damage by passengers during the period of hire. The hirer will be responsible for all damage repair costs attributed to negligence on the part of the hirer.
Child seats requiring anchoring points are not permitted, however booster seats utilising the seatbelts can be used.
Whilst on the Bus, Children must be accompanied by a responsible adult at all times, their safety is the responsibility of the Parents/Guardians.
No parcels, goods or luggage (other than hand luggage) are to be carried in the passenger seating spaces.
The bus must be refueled before returning it to the shed - failure to do this may impact any future hire requests. (info on how to do this is located in the documents folder on the bus).
At completion of hire the Bus must be cleaned & all rubbish removed.
Registered Guide Dogs / Companion/Service Dogs are permitted on the bus. No other animals are permitted on the bus.
Strictly: NO smoking/vaping, NO consumption of alcohol, NO eating, drinking allowed on the bus.
If a Catastrophic Fire Danger Day is forecast in the Mid North/Flinders Ranges and/or in any fire district of the intended itinerary (according to the Bureau of Meteorology - BOM) (bom.gov.au) the Hire/Charter will be rescheduled or cancelled prior to, or on the day of travel.
On Extreme/Severe Fire Danger Days the nominated driver is responsible for the safety and wellbeing of their passengers, and they are required to monitor ''Alert SA" and have a bushfire management plan in place prior to use of the Community Bus.
Indemnity:
The hirer shall be responsible for the payment of any excess applicable to any insurance claim arising from the hire of the bus (Hirer will be subject to $2,000 excess where the vehicle is being used for the conveyance of passengers for hire, fare or reward with the exception of Community Transport (Health & Identified Community Groups) purposes which is $500);
Removal of any equipment from the vehicle (such as first aid kit, extinguishers etc.) will incur a charge, being that cost to replace said item.
Additional details
The nominated driver must ensure the Community Bus is parked correctly and in a secure place at all times.
Any parking fines or driving infringements incurred at the time of hire must be paid for by the nominated driver.
