About this Space

St Heliers Centre was founded on the principle of caring for our local community, so we're happy to share our excellent facilities with groups, individuals and families who are looking for a safe and welcoming space.

This space is our Lower Hall (Johnston Hall) and it's a brilliant multipurpose space. It is ideal for dance and fitness classes, but also suits a variety of other uses e.g. kids parties, training, community groups, presentations, classes, gatherings, and networking. This is a generously sized space, that has a very flexible set up. It feels modern and open and benefits from natural daylight.

Community lounge

All hirers and their guests are welcome to gather in the our community lounge before their event. This has comfy casual seating, a peaceful courtyard.

Regular hirers

We welcome regular hirers who want to use this space. It's perfect for classes or activity programs. We have a lower regular hire rate. Please message us for options.

Eating & Drinking

The space comes with an in-built kitchenette that includes: Two sinks, hot water boiler, filtered drinking water, sanitizer, dish steriliser, electric hob, oven, microwave, two small fridges, crockery and cutlery. You will need to bring your own tea, coffee supplies etc. It's ideal for people who have packed lunches or food to plate up for a buffet. Please book enough time to clean the kitchen and leave as you found it, otherwise a cleaning fee maybe charged.

Please take your rubbish home when you leave. If you cannot commit to doing this, then please add the rubbish removal fee at checkout.

No alcohol can be consumed or sold at the facility under the terms of our licence.

Tech & AV

The space has a large screen that drops down from the roof. We have a portable AV system with projector and mics you can hire. The speaker system requires Bluetooth connectivity. We provide HDMI cables, but you must bring your own adaptor if your device does not have a HDMI port. There is no tech support provided with the AV rental. We recommend a pre visit to familiarise yourself with this system . The wifi signal is strong by the hall door, but can be patchier towards the kitchen.

Decorations & Music

You're welcome to bring decorations for your event. Please do not use pins to attach to the wall, and all decorations must be removed at the end of your booking. The centre is located in a residential area and due care and respect must be shown to neighbouring properties with regard to noise both during and after the event. Hirers are responsible for managing noise during the event. Noise from amplifiers and loudspeakers (especially from live bands ) must be kept to a moderate level at all times.

Accessibility

The room is fully wheelchair accessible and access is via a lift down from the ground floor of the building. There is an accessible toilet. The centre has 1 disabled parking slot.

Location

St Heliers Centre is a 5 minute walk into the lovely St Heliers village and beach. It has plenty of cafes, shops, bars and restaurants. The Tamaki Link bus connects the village to the city every 15 minutes.

Rules

Hours of Activity

Hirers must vacate the premises no later than 9.45pm including clean up. Hirers may not enter any facility until the time booked and all functions must finish at the completion of the booked period. The booking period must include setting up, dismantling, and cleaning of the venue.

Cleaning

Hirers are responsible for packing down, cleaning and removing any rubbish from the venue. Failure to do so will result in these costs being deducted from your bond or your bond being with held. We can arrange for the venue to be set up and/or cleaned after your function.Please enquire regarding these costs

It is the responsibility of each hirer to clean and vacuum any area that they have used and have dirtied. Chairs and tables need to be stored as they were found or as agreed after use. No gathering outside the front of the centre after 9.45pm.

ALWAYS leave the front of the building clear for emergency vehicles and for vehicles dropping off disabled people.

Host's Cancellation Policy
100% refund on cancellations up until 7 days before your booking. After that, no refunds on cancellation.
Parking and Public Transport Information

There is plenty of free residential parking on the street. Please note that the car park to the right of the centre is for STAFF ONLY. It can be used after 5pm and on weekends. Users must not park or drop off within the driveway to the left of the centre. DO NOT park on the grass or yellow marked parking areas. Vehicles must not be left unattended in the designated drop off areas.
