The Institute Hall – Mitcham Village

Built in 1870, the Institute Hall was the original community facility in Mitcham Village and remains a key part of its heritage. Today, the MCV Institute Hall is a versatile venue ideal for your next function or event — including seminars, workshops, exhibitions, performances, cocktail functions, fundraisers, memorial services, or birthday celebrations. A surcharge will apply for Non - City of Mitcham Residents & businesses/commercial entities.

This multi-purpose space can accommodate large gatherings, with seating for up to 100 people in theatre-style layout, or up to 80 in a cabaret-style arrangement with tables and chairs. The hall is equipped with audiovisual (AV) equipment — please bring your own HDMI cable and laptop. A data projector, lectern, and cordless microphones are included in the hire fee. Beautiful acoustic panels featuring the history of the local area complement the heritage of the building.

Adjacent to the hall are the kitchen, supper room, and accessible toilet facilities. The modernized kitchen features a commercial-grade oven and cooktops, extensive refrigeration, dishwasher, and other appliances. Internal and external access ramps are provided for easy access and movement throughout the venue. A baby grand piano is also available upon request and will be positioned by staff.

MCV East Wing

The MCV East Wing is also available for hire. It is an annex to the Institute Hall, accessible from the main entrance atrium and via an internal connecting door. Often used as a gallery space for art exhibitions, the East Wing is not suitable for large gatherings, but is ideal for meetings, training sessions, or small to medium-sized events of up to 30 people.
