About this space

The Lynmore Scout Hall is the home Den of the Lynmore Scout Group. The Hall also provides an economical function space for the community, hosting kids parties, dance classes, community groups, church groups, workshops and other gatherings. This venue is not suitable for 21st parties or similar. It is located on the Selwyn Road Reserve, sharing carparking with the Lynmore Tennis Club and surrounded by the close-knit Lynmore Community. As such we welcome hall users who are respectful of Hall neighbours and other users of the public Reserve.

The main hall space has polished chipboard floors and fixed bench seats on two sides. Opening windows and a heat pump provide ventilation and warmth. A smaller space off the kitchen has wooden floors, a piano (untuned) and another heat pump. This is where the chairs, benches and tables for use in the main hall are stored. The kitchen is basic, with a large fridge/freezer, domestic oven and hob, Zip water heater, and a microwave. We have a basic assortment of donated crockery and cookware, but suggest users bring what they need. There is no dishwasher, no tea towels, and no hot water tap (hot water can be heated in the Zip). We do not provide a rubbish bin, as there is no rubbish collection from the site - users need to bring their own rubbish bags and take all rubbish away with them. The Hall has two toilets (one wheelchair accessible) and the entrance is accessed by ramp. Toilet paper, soap and paper towels are provided. The hall is very popular for kids parties, with a playground and plenty of outside space on the adjoining reserve. Users are welcome to hire their own bouncy castle which can sit outside on the grass.

Included in the space hire: 5 x trestle tables, two large tables (suitable for crafts, or cover them for food service), 60 chairs and 6 benches. There is a Heat pump in each room. There is one small chalk board in the main hall. Smoke alarms, fire hose, fire extinguisher and fire blanket are installed.

We DO NOT provide: projector, whiteboard, screen, tea and coffee, rubbish bags, tea towels. Please bring your own. As the hall is managed by volunteers, and no staff are present on site, we do not offer viewings.

The Hall is available for use between 8am and 9pm daily. To maximise use of the space we have a four-hour minimum booking time.

We encourage regular hall users to make use of the space, and offer a discounted rate for regular hires.

Suitable for up to 60 people seated at tables, or 100 standing or theatre style. Power points are very limited, with one pair in the hall, one in the kitchen, and one in the smaller room. Please bring your own power boards and extension leads.

The kitchen has a serving hatch into the smaller room, and a door into the main hall. You are welcome to use the kitchen, or bring in your own caterer, but facilities are basic and we advise bringing most of your food pre-prepared. There is a domestic oven/cook top, microwave and large fridge/freezer. Hot water is available from the Zip water heater only. Some crockery, cutlery and cookware is available, but we suggest you bring your own as numbers and quality are variable. We provide basic cleaning supplies, but suggest you bring your own tea towels. You are expected to leave the kitchen, toilets, and the rest of the space, clean and ready for the next user. To keep costs down we rely on users to keep the hall clean.

You are welcome to serve alcohol at your event, but it can only be consumed INSIDE the hall. The Council Reserve outside is an alcohol free zone. We do not have a liquor license for the sale of alcohol.

You are welcome to decorate the hall space for your event. Please note the hall must be left as you found it, so all decorations and rubbish - including any outside the hall on the Reserve - must be removed. Please no balloons, confetti or party poppers in the reserve or playground. The community does not appreciate picking up other people's rubbish.

The Reserve outside offers plenty of space for a bouncy castle. If wanting one inside, the maximum height is 2.7m. It's fine to use an external event hire company if you want to bring your own furniture, decorations etc. All decorations and anything you have brought in for your event must be removed by the end of your booking, we can't accommodate storage or set up/pack down before or after your booking time has ended. Please book the time you need in the hall space to set up, pack down and clean as the hall may be used directly before or after you. If you would like to decorate for your event the day before please also book in for that - set up time must be consecutive with your event booking (eg set up 5-9pm Friday, event 8am-5pm Saturday).

The hall is wheelchair accessible with a ramp to the entrance and a toilet with space for a wheelchair.

Thanks for supporting the Lynmore Scout Group by booking the Hall. Information on how to access the hall will be provided to you by email the day before your event once your booking has been approved.
