Osmanthus Gardens
About this space
Tucked into the peaceful south-west corner of Cornwall Park, the Osmanthus Gardens is a serene and culturally rich setting for larger gatherings like weddings, community events and festivals. Steeped in history, the gardens commemorate the sister city relationship between Hastings and Guilin in China, making it a meaningful space for community connection.
With traditional Chinese architecture, tranquil ponds, elegant bridges and lush plantings, this unique space offers a versatile venue that blends beauty and meaning.
Osmanthus Gardens includes features like the zigzag Crooked Bridge, designed to deter evil spirits, the striking Waterside Pavilion, and the symbolic Friendship Bridge leading to Plum Blossom Island.
The space also includes significant features such as Taihu Rock, imported from near Shanghai, and a rich planting scheme featuring bamboo, camellia and the fragrant Osmanthus tree.
Access is available through the Full Moon Gate off Tōmoana Road, or via a rear entrance connecting to the native area of the park.
Council’s event team can help you manage all the council requirements relating to use of the space.
