Landmarks Square
About this space
Landmarks Square is a dynamic pocket park in the heart of Hastings city, designed for activation, creativity and connection. Named after the Landmarks initiative – a partnership between Council and the community to enhance the city’s environment – this vibrant space offers a unique setting for everything from markets and performances to art classes, fundraisers and pop-up experiences.
The square features an all-weather artificial turf lawn, a permanent stage, built-in seating, lush planting, accessible toilets and lighting – all framed by the striking Prunus Awanui sculpture by local artist Philipp Meier, a stylised celebration of the cherry blossom (and a popular play feature for children).
Te Pouaka (container) on site adds even more flexibility. It can be hired for a wide range of community activations such as food pop-ups, flower or produce stalls, small performances or creative workshops. It includes a kitchenette with a drinks fridge, deep fryer (no oil), running water and sink.
Backing onto Fun Buns restaurant and centrally located for great visibility and foot traffic, Landmarks Square is wheelchair accessible and offers a ready-made canvas for vibrant public and community events.

No dogs in playground or sportsground areas.
No vehicles without special permission

No ground penetration without specific permission (some parks will need a mark-out for underground services at a cost)
No open fires
No BBQ’s under trees or during fire bans
No bouncy castles/large inflatables at Cornwall Park, Havelock North Village Green, and Flaxmere Park and with all other parks hirer needs special permission
Additional details
A range of parking exists in the central business district and the main bus stop hub is located nearby on Eastbourne Street by the public library. Bay Plaza on Russell Street is also served by connecting lines.
