About this space
Award-winning Flaxmere Park is home to one of Hastings premier playgrounds and skate plaza. It also has sports fields, marked for rugby in the winter and cricket in the summer, a large number of mature shade-giving trees, and a pond.
The fenced playground includes swings, climbing frames, slides, a gyroscope and splash pad. There are also picnic tables and a free-to-use community barbecue.
The park has adult exercise equipment placed along a walking and cycling track around the park, ki-o-rahi field and nine-hole disc golf circuit.
The Te Pae Whīra o Pā Harakeke Flaxmere Skate Park is spread over almost 1400sqm and features more than 20 skate elements.
Flaxmere Park was named Recreation Aotearoa's Active Park of the Year in both 2020 and 2023.
The park is a popular venue for large community events and to enable performances to be held there is a concrete pad stage with electricity points.
There are two separate blocks of public toilets throughout the park.
The entrances to the park are off Henderson Rd, Wilson Rd and Flaxmere Ave.
Flaxmere Park is a Green Flag Award-winning park. A Green Flag is an international mark of quality awarded to parks and reserves. There are 27 criteria against which they are judged, including management plans, community consultation and engagement processes, environmental and sustainability practices, horticultural management and succession planning, safety, and how accessible and welcoming they are to their communities. They are judged each year to ensure the parks are being consistently improved and continue to meet the needs of their communities.
