Point Walter Reserve
About this space
Named in 1827 by Captain James Stirling after a favourite uncle, Point Walter Reserve takes its name from the prominent bend in the Swan River that defines this much-loved foreshore destination.
Today, the reserve is home to the picturesque Point Walter Golf Course and the Point Walter Recreation and Conference Centre, offering a unique blend of recreation, events and natural beauty. When the tide recedes, visitors can walk along the iconic sandbar stretching out into the river — a remarkable natural feature that provides stunning photo opportunities and a memorable riverside experience.
Families will enjoy the beautifully redeveloped Dyoondalup Point Walter Playground, located along the foreshore beside Walter’s River Café. Designed in collaboration with Noongar artist Sharyn Egan, the playground celebrates Noongar culture and the surrounding landscape.
Point Walter Reserve offers a range of bookable areas for functions and events, including two dedicated function spaces and five wedding sites. The function areas are positioned at the top of the reserve overlooking the pond, with Function Area 1 being the only location suitable for larger installations such as marquees, bouncy castles, petting zoos or pony rides. The five wedding areas are located closer to the foreshore, providing a stunning riverside backdrop, with one area reserved specifically for ceremonies. (Please note Wedding Area 5 is available for a maximum three-hour booking.)

Rules
Bookings must include setup and pack-down time.
The City reserves the right to request additional information subject to legislation, codes of practice and guidelines and poliices.
Bond will be charged for all Events on the City of Melville Land.
Bouncy castles and marquees are only permitted at Function area 1 with required approval. Pegs/stakes are not permitted to secure structures or bouncy castles. Weights must be used to secure any structures (such as marquees).
Petting zoos, animal farms and pony rides may be permitted with approval and a permit.
Barbecues and playgrounds cannot be booked for exclusive use.
Other important information to note when making a booking
Reserve bookings are not accepted for Public Holidays, 18th or 21st birthday parties.
Dogs are not allowed at Point Walter Reserve.
Hirers must comply with all City terms and conditions.
Public Liability Insurance of not less than $10 million is required for sporting bodies, clubs, associations, schools, and commercial entities and must be provided prior to booking approval.

Public transport and buses are available nearby.
Large functions and events with more than 200 people will need to include a parking management plan.
