About this space

Located opposite the Darling Terrace Gallery, this charming and accessible park is a peaceful community space that offers a range of facilities for visitors. Amenities include accessible toilets, a sheltered area equipped with BBQ facilities, and parking suitable for motorhomes and caravans.

The park is named in honour of Kay Jessop, a dedicated Girl Guide leader, and Doug White, long-time leader of the Whyalla Citizens Band. It features two restored historic buildings: the Jessop White Hall and the Whyalla Band Hall, preserving the area's rich cultural heritage.

A paved pathway lined with stately plane trees—including one relocated from Whyalla’s main street—links the Jessop White Hall to the historic BHP pay office. Also located within the park is one of the town’s earliest water catchment tanks, a relic from the early days of Whyalla's settlement.

The development of the park was a collaborative project between the Whyalla City Council and OneSteel, with paved paths and thoughtful landscaping. It was officially opened to the public on 4 July 2010.

Booking fees apply for all ceremonies and large community or commercial events. Council will be in touch to confirm any booking fees prior to approving your hire. Please refer to the Council Fees and Charges Register for more information.
