About this space
Commercial Rowing Club is the oldest continually operating sporting club in Queensland. It was established 1877 and approaching its 150th anniversary. The club caters for rowers across all age groups and is run by a volunteer committee which is keen to foster the club and its space as a worthy part of the growing West End community.
The two storey fully functioning rowing club offers an uncluttered, clean and well-maintained venue upstairs which includes a great multifunctional hall space and bar / kitchen area opening extensively to an adjoining balcony overlooking the Brisbane River.
The rooms are open and airy with high ceilings and installed fans, vinyl flooring, acoustic ceiling panels, and dimmable lights. The balcony which is west facing can be fitted with sun screening as required to make a further very useful semi enclosed alfresco space.
Although housed in a building constructed early 2000s, the Club is decorated tastefully with photos and memorabilia from its existence over more than 145 years.
This is a great space for large informal gatherings, providing both intimate spaces in and around the kitchen / bar for conversation, and a large open space for addressing bigger groups. It is also good for conducting classes such as yoga or pilates or for presentations.
