About this space

The Elsie Austin Oval in Mt Helena is a prominent community facility named in honor of a beloved figure in the community. The oval is situated on a recreation reserve that also includes the Mt Helena Tennis Club, Mt Helena Skatepark, a playground, the Eastern Hills Guide and Scout Hall, and the Mt Helena Volunteer Bushfire Brigade.

Seasonal sporting clubs operate regularly at these ovals and adjoining pavilion, and as a result, casual hire is limited. Please see the Booking Schedule for available times. Applications for organised sporting use/training which conflicts with seasonal sporting codes may be declined.

Summer season (October through March): Cricket

Winter season (April through September): AFL Football

Facilities include:

150m x 100m reticulated natural turf sports field
Can cater for senior AFL and cricket
Artificial turf cricket pitch
Seasonal AFL goalposts
50 lux sports floodlighting with four towers and metal halide lamps
Two cricket practice nets
Concrete athletics discus ring
Home and away change rooms, kiosk, and covered verandah
