Free Community Lounge and Kitchen for meetings, worskhops and events
Hosted by Kirsten Petersen
SpacetoCo Host since March 2021Ōwairaka Community House is a free local venue for residents of Ōwairaka, Mt Roskill and Mount Albert. It's provided by Kāinga Ora as part of Roskill Development and aims to provide a safe and welcoming space for residents.
About this space
Our community lounge, kitchen and deck is perfect for gatherings, get togethers and informal meetings. The lounge space has big comfy sofas and a coffee table. The kitchen has a large dining table and all appliances you would need to cook or serve food. The deck is under shade next to some beautiful mature trees and is a wonderful space to sit outside.
It works really well for community meetings, kids parties, book clubs, workshops, small classes, group therapy - and we're open to any ideas!
The space is flexible for lots of different uses, and you're welcome to make it your own with decorations or use some of the following resources that we have available.
Trestle tables
Additional seating
High Chair
Zero waste events kit
Wifi
Catering
The kitchen can be used for self catering. It includes stove and oven, microwave, sink and dishwasher, kettle, fridge/freezer and pots, pans, knives, chopping board etc.
There are some basic ingredients, but please bring the food supplies you need.
Please make sure you book enough time to clean up and leave the kitchen and dining area exactly as you found it. Cleaning kit is provided.
This community house has a zero alcohol policy.
Access
The space is wheelchair accessible. There is a disabled toilet and baby changing area. The kitchen counter tops may be a little high for some wheelchair users and the door to the deck is narrow, but otherwise the rooms are easy to move around in. The smaller rooms can be used for breast feeding. Our intention is to provide a free home away from home for our friends and whanau that live in Owairaka, Roskill and Mt Albert. We welcome all sorts of uses of the spaces - from community meetings to kids birthday parties. Tell us what you need and hopefully we can help you out.
