Our purpose is to be an integral part of Grey Lynn, with values that reflect the diversity of the area, that supports cultural and creative expression and strengthens community by developing connections and networks. We enable this by: facilitating a diverse range of activities to provide for the whole community, ensuring a safe environment for people to gather, facilitate affordable spaces for community activities and by providing a clean & welcoming facility.

About this space

Our Garden Room is a flexible, multi-use space that's particularly good for kids or creative activities. It has felted walls, easy clean floors and opens out to our communal courtyard and playground area. The space is perfect for kids birthday parties, classes, art lessons, meetings, community groups, fitness, dance and drama, rehearsals, training and much more. The room hire includes:

-6 trestle tables (H:1.8m x W:750cmand 70 chairs (included on the booking)

-Free Wi-Fi

-Fixed whiteboard

-Access to secure playground (non exclusive)


-Heatpump and fan

-Children's chairs and tables (for hire)

-Children's toilet

Weekday: $38

Weekend: $58 - this rate will be automatically charged if you book on a weekend.

Public Holiday: $58 - this rate will be applied after your booking is confirmed.

Additional charges

For all bookings that are after 10pm on a weeknight or 9pm on a weekend, an additional Night Service fee of $26 per hour applies.

For all bookings that are on a public holiday, an additional Custodial Service fee of $26 per hour applies.

A $150 bond will be applied to all bookings. It is automatically held and returned within 4 working days of your event. See more details in the SpaceProtect Section below for how this works.

Food and Drink

You're welcome to bring your own food and drink or use external caterers for your event. The kitchenette is accessible through a door and serving hatch to the room space. The kitchenette includes a fridge, microwave, small dishwasher, hot water boiler and sink. You will need to bring your own crockery, cutlery, glassware etc. You may serve alcohol.


We have a projector and large 2m wide mobile screen that can be hired additionally for presentations. Please add this at checkout. The AV connectors are HDMI and VGA.


You can put up decorations for your party. The felted walls are ideal for velcro and pins. Please do not use pins or tape in the walls. All decorations must be removed at the end of your booking.


You are expected to leave the room as you found it. Cleaning equipment is provided. If you cannot commit to cleaning the space, please purchase the cleaning option at checkout.


Grey Lynn Community Centre is located on Richmond road in a cluster of neighbourhood shops and eateries. We're lucky to be surrounded by some of Auckland's best cafes. There are plenty of options nearby for your lunch and coffee break or after event drinks.


The Garden Room has wheelchair access and there is a disabled toilet on the ground floor. There will always be a staff member present to let you in for your booking. There are 2 disabled car parking spaces. There is baby changing and a small private breastfeeding area.

Extra items and charges

This space has extra items and charges that can be added to your booking. Some may be required depending on your booking time and this will be shown at the checkout.

Please note that the decking and playground areas are shared communal areas and bookings DO NOT have exclusivity of useNo smoking

No naked flames

If you set off the fire alarm, there may be a fine if the fire service are called


No smoke machine

No Sellotape, Blutack, push-pins, tacks or nails to be used on the walls or whiteboard

You can use tacks and pushpins on the felted wall

Please remove any strings, push-pins and tacks you might have used to fix the decorations before the end of your booking

Tables and chairs MUST be wiped down and returned to the storage space with NO exceptions

The room must be left as you found it, there are cleaning tools available on request

There is no rubbish disposal at the facility, please remove ALL rubbish from your event

Additional details

Host's Cancellation Policy
100% refund on cancellations up until 7 days before your booking. After that, there are no refunds on cancellation.
Parking and Public Transport Information

The centre has 20 free private car parking spaces, that are first come first serve to all our centre users. There is lots of free residential parking within a 5 minute walk of the centre. The centre is on the 105 bus route that connects Westmere and the CBD.
